Pesos y medidas

Like most of the world, the Spanish use the metric system for weights and measures. Here are the main units and a link to a converter so you can find out the Imperial equivalents.

Weight / El peso

 gram un gramo
 kilogram un kilogramo
un kilo

Volume / El volumen

 liter un litro
 milliliter un mililitro

Length / El largo

 centimeter un centímetro
 meter un metro
 kilometer un kilómetro

 When weights and measures are used in front of nouns, the preposition de is required and the article is omitted:

a kilogram of tomatoes un kilo de tomates
a liter of milk un litro de leche

Imperial system / El sistema imperial

foot un pie
inch una pulgada
mile una milla
pound una libra
