Telling Spanish Verb

Decir is one of the most common and useful Spanish verbs and has irregular conjugations. Decir literally means "to say" or "to tell," and is also found in many idiomatic expressions.

Decir = to say / to tell

Decir can mean either "to say" or "to tell." For English speakers learning Spanish, this is easy: you can use decir for either. For Spanish speakers learning English, however, it’s a bit more difficult.*

Por ejemplo…

Dicen que es importante. They say it’s important.
No puedo decir.    I can’t say.
¿Qué me dices? What are you telling me?
Digo la verdad. I’m telling the truth.

Decir que = to say (that)

Dice que podemos empezar.   She says (that) we can start.
¿Dijo que iba a llover?   Did he say (that) it was going to rain?
