Te quiero
Share / Tweet / Pin Me!
Meaning   I love you (affectionate)
Register   normal
Pronunciation Spanish sound files [tay kyeh roh]
IPA   [te ‘kjɛ ro]

Usage notes: The stem-changing Spanish verb querer means "to want" or – more importantly for the purposes of this lesson – "to love," especially in the sense of feeling affection toward someone, such as a family member or friend.

Per esempio…

¡Te quiero, Papá!   I love you Dad!
Hasta luego Lupe, te quiero!   Bye Lupe, I love you!

Responses

  • Te quiero también. / Yo también, te quiero. – I love you, too.

Te quiero can also be used for romantic relationships, but it’s softer, less emphatic than te amo.
