Calling Spanish expressions

Llamar literally means "to call" in all senses of the word and is used in many Spanish expressions.

llamar   to call
    to name
    to hail (a cab)
     
llamar a alguien a gritos/voces   to shout for someone
llamar a alguien a las filas   to call someone up
llamar a alguien al orden   to call someone to order
llamar al pan pan y al vino vino   to call a spade a spade
llamar con la mano   to motion / beckon to someone
llamar la atención a alguien   to attract someone's attention, to tell someone off
llamar la atención sobre   to draw attention to
llamar por ayuda   to call for help
llamar por la puerta   to knock on the door
llamar por teléfono   to call, telephone
     
Entren sin llamar   Enter without knocking
estar llamado a hacer algo   to be destined to do something
estar llamado a fracasar   to be doomed to fail
estar llamado al fracaso   to be doomed to failure
Lo que se dio en llamar…   What came to be called / known as…
mandar llamar a alguien   to send for / summon someone
sentirse llamado a hacer algo   to feel called/destined to do something
     
Dios lo ha llamado a su lado   God has called him to His side
Eso yo lo llamo un auténtico robo   That's what I call daylight robbery
Están llamando   There's someone at the door
Llámalo hache   Call it what you will
Me llamó de todo   He called me every name under the sun
Me llamó la atención no verte por allí   I was surprised not to see you there
No te metas donde no te llaman   Don't poke your nose in where it's not wanted
¿Quién (me) llama? (on the phone)   Who's calling?
¿Quien llama? (at the door)   Who's there? Who is it?
Seremos llamados a las urnas   An election / a referendum will be called
     
llamarse   to be called/named
¡Como me llamo … que lo haré!   I'll do it sure as my name is …!
¿Cómo se llama?   What's your name?
¿Cómo se llama esto? (informal)   How much does this cost? What's the damage?
¡Eso sí que se llama … !   Now that's what I call …!
¡Eso sí que se llama hablar!   Now you're talking!
Me llamo…   My name is…
¿Sabes cómo se llama…?   Do you know what … is called?

El mal llamado problema   What has mistakenly been called a problem
un llamado (Argentina)   phone call
  (Latin America)   appeal
un llamador   doorknocker, doorbell; caller

Llamar is a regular -ar verb.
